Fall Planters

I realize that I'm pretty easy to please and little things make me happy most of the time.  We were having a little get together at our home this weekend.  As I was sprucing things up, I realized our deck planters were looking pretty sad.  Towards the end of summer I had horribly neglected them and the endless heat of August and September had taken their toll.  I mentioned it to Dave and he kindly cleaned them up and replanted them.  When I came home, I was so happy to see what he had done.

My deck planters were revived with fresh plantings that brought a fall color flair to my back entrance.  Pictured here is my favorite pot that now contains a Sunshine Blue blueberry, a Gulf Stream Nandina and a variegated Japanese sedge.  The burgundy, bronze highlights on the blueberry leaves looks so nice next to the red and burgundy of the Nandina.  It’s rich and lush and will look nice all fall and winter.  The plants will get more colorful as cold weather moves in.  It’s a nice touch on my decks and will make me happy every time I look out the window.

The best part is that next summer I will have loads of fabulous blueberries right outside my kitchen door.  Fabulous fall color now.  Delicious blueberry muffins later.  Not bad.
