It really all comes down to food

It really all comes down to food, at least for me. And what does this have to do with the nursery industry you ask? All of us that work here are cooks and have our specialties (and idiosyncrasies) and share food and recipes. I just had a delicious handful of pumpkin seeds, in the shell from a coworker. Yum. So where was I? Oh yes food. Our neighbors at the nursery are farmers and we get strawberries, green beans and corn from them. We grow a vegetable garden in the back for all to share in the bounty.
On the wild fringes of the nursery are old plum and pear trees and it is easy to find a blackberry here and there. I have picked the Oregon grapes and made a tart juice with them. We also grow lots of blueberries, gooseberries, sea berry, honey berry and Oregon grapes as nursery stock. We have a lady nearby that makes great homemade cookies and we order some from time to time. We have a café that we get delicious lunches from, tamales from another cook and so on. So yes we are working hard to produce the best plant material available but we need fuel to keep us going and good food and variety of food is our joy and sustenance.
