What To Do in Your Yard in June

Now is a good time to prune and deadhead Rhododendrons. After the plants have finished blooming, deadhead the spent blossoms and prune the plant, if necessary. It’s also a good time to fertilize them too.

June is a good time to make a bouquet! Cutting flowers will encourage plants to bloom more.

Don't forget to water! Although we have had an usually rainy spring here in the Pacific Northwest, its still important to water now that the temperatures are finally starting to warm up. If you have plants in containers, it's important to note that they should be watered daily.

Once perennials have stopped blooming, you can cut them to the ground to encourage them to push new growth and possibly bloom for a second time. This is also a good thing to do with spireas.

It's also a good time to weed! After you weed, take some time to apply mulch. This will keep weeds down later on, and will fertilize your soil.

And don't forget the most important thing of all: kick back and relax in your yard. Enjoy summer now that it has finally arrived!
