A Grower Perspective

For years we've heard stories of nurseries and other businesses having unexpected OSHA inspection visits. Last week was our turn.

Yesterday I noticed the first wild plum trees in bloom along the east side of the property where the creek flows. It is all so very leafless over there; conifers border the sky and below them grow the lichen covered bare trees. Yet now there is the pale white of the plum trees. Hurray for spring! Also, I filled out my first basketball bracket yesterday and to date I'm 10 and 16, so there you go. It's a six dollar pot and I'm not likely to win but we are having such fun doing it. And yes, today is the first day of spring.

Yesterday was the annual auction for our kids’ school. It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and critically important to the operation of our school. We always try to support these fundraisers as much as possible and the auction is no exception. One of our auction donations this year was a truckload of plants that were used as decorations and then as an auction items.

Yesterday I came back to the office after a meeting that lasted three hours. My brain was tired. I felt drained and the last place I wanted to go was back to work. When I parked and walked up to our front entrance I noticed Nancy Blum, our resident plant expert and designer extraordinaire, was hard at work putting the finishing touches on our front entrance containers. She had redesigned them and added fresh plant material. THEY WERE GORGEOUS!
