Being A Regular.

Today is Friday and every Friday on the way to work I stop at the café and get my Friday treats to take to work. I know the two baristas who work the counter at the café and we talk about plants and what they did the night before (played Scattagories and drank blueberry beer). They are young and I love to hear
about what's up in their world. Do you remember Cheers? Where everyone knows your name? It's important for all of us to be a ‘regular' somewhere.
A lot of regulars come to the nursery. We learn to know the plants they really like and what new plants they might be interested in. We know if they want a cup of coffee for the ride back to where ever and if they might like a cookie if there is one around. We know their funny habits and conversation styles, we often know their families and talk about that. These are the things that make work human and that make it fun and entertaining. It makes us more than machines producing and distributing plants. It makes our work worthwhile. It feels good to be a regular somewhere. Where is your Cheers?
