What I did today....

Posted by: Amy Daniel in pleasant hill nursery on Print

My son wrote his first blog post today.  Here is a look into his morning at Pleasant Hill Nursery working with Nancy:

I went outside this morning with pruners and cut flowers for my mom. I learned how to hold the clippers, (I noticed later that there were grooves in the handles of the clippers) and I learned how to cut flowers so they could make more flowers. The flowers I cut were, Black Eyed Susan, Russian Sage, Purple Sage, White Rugosa Rose, Iris Seed Pods, Crocosmia Seed Pods, and Caradonna Sage Flowers. Now the pot is not empty anymore.

Hey Max,
Great Blog. You know your Mom is one of the very best writers I have ever read and she writes in short bits. You have the same talent coming along so use it! Hope you are enjoying the summer and learning lots. Knowing how to cut flowers and make a bouquet will win you lots of girl's hearts and save you lots of money! Smart guy! Have fun, Michelle

Hey Max now that you know how to prune flowers to encourage them to continue blooming I could use some help in my yard. Also, explain to me what a blog is?
Great blog, Max!

Now that you've mastered pruning flowers can you teach me a few pointers? My flower beds would sure thank you!! You're so lucky to spend the day at your family's beautiful nursery! Tell your sisters and parents hello for me!

First of all, Max, I'm impressed that you have made a blog entry.
And it was so thoughtful and informative. Now I want to know how
to cut flowers to they make more of them. No wonder my plants only
bloom once a year! Very impressive, Max!

Max, great blog.. You should have your own helpful hints "Ask Max" blog. So, how do you prune a flowering plant and produce more bloom? Do I use a special pruner, where do I make the cut and is it best to not cut off all the blooms? I love learning new things..

Thanks Max.

Thank you for commenting on my blog. It is fun to blog. You should try. (Grandpa - a blog is like a journal that you keep on the web.) To answer everyone's question about pruning, use a pruning clipper. (My dad says we use Felco's.) To keep your flowers blooming and to keep your plants growing healthy cut the stem at an angle above the junctions where a bunch of branches meet. It makes it so it has a chance to regrow. That's what Nancy told me. She's nice. She knows a lot about plants.

I love a good blog and you are a VERY good blogger! I love that you know all the plant names you planted (which is more than I can say about anything I've ever planted). Between blogging and your raging guitar talent, I'd say you've got it going on! Hope there are more posts from you to come, Max!!!

Nice Blog Max. You've blogged and I never have. Thanks for honoring your mom with flowers. That is a great thing to do for mom and will earn lots of points to use on the days when you may need some extra credit. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
