Juniperus scopulorum 'Moonglow' Columnar plants are the geometry that give form and color and uplift to the garden. Upright plants do just that to the garden they lift your gaze upward and pull you straight up. We so often spend our time looking down at what’s poking up from the ground that we often forget to look up. When we were kids there were times of lying on the ground and gazing up through the leaves of the tall trees and letting our thoughts wander. Do we still do this today? A glorious vertical plant reminds us to take a peek upwards and see what we have forgotten. Columnar plants fit nicely into gardens where space is at a premium, in place of a fence and as nesting sites for birds. ‘Moonglow’ Juniper is a columnar conifer with silvery blue foliage on slightly reddish- brown stems. It grows quickly (12 inches per year) to create a dense pyramid, ultimately 15-20 feet high by 5-8 feet wide. Grow in well drained, acidic or alkaline soils and in full sun. Plant as a specimen or grouped along a boundary for privacy, in pots flanking your front door or as sentinels announcing the entrance to your garden. Plant sporadically among different shaped plants for upward interest, a punctuation mark in your garden.
