|
Picea omorika Picea omorika is a graceful, beautiful spruce tree with a narrow pyramidal growth pattern; more slender and graceful than other spruces. This Eastern European conifer has sweeping branches upturned at the ends. The upper surfaces of the needles are glossy and dark green. The lower surface is marked with two white stomata lines. The trunk grows straight and the tree requires no pruning to keep the narrow, pyramidal form. Commonly known as Serbian Spruce, this tree will grow about 50 feet tall with a spread of up to 20 feet wide and is one of the most elegant of the Spruces. The most interesting attribute of this tree are the cones, they are dark purple (almost black) when young, maturing to dark brown and have stiff scales. This tree has many uses; as a specimen, wind break, screen, or perhaps as an evergreen street tree for narrow overhead spaces. It is surprisingly tolerant of urban conditions, probably more so than other Spruces which makes it a good landscape selection. In its youth, Picea omorika also can be used in containers as a living Christmas tree. We are also offering B&B, ranging from $36.00-$48.00. Pleasant Hill Nursery is pleased to offer: Picea omorika in #15's: $55.00 |
