10-25-11: Berberis 'Crimson Pygmy' |
|
Crimson Pygmy barberry is true to its name, with bright red foliage and a petite form. Select this plant for its vibrant, crimson foliage. Its eventual size is around 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide, with a vase shape of arching branches. It is deciduous, but leaves behind bright red winter berries for the fall and winter. For the best color, select a bright, sunny location. Select this barberry for its easy care, adaptable nature. To keep your barberry looking its best, prune it annually, late in the dormant season. If you have a neglected plant in your yard, revitalize it by cutting it back in the winter to about a foot tall, before new spring growth begins. Deer avoid this plant, which is another point in its favor.
