11-18-08: Nandina

Nandina Nandinas are most noted as a shrub with colorful autumn foliage, but the beauty of this plant lies in its finely textured lacy foliage, attractive red berries, and cream colored flowers.

Nandina's beauty compliments a tough nature that is tolerant of both urban conditions and drought. Nandina is often planted as informal hedges, ground covers, in borders, and also in containers. They can even be grown under eves with very little water. Plant in full sun to part shade. To keep mature plants fresh prune back older stalks to the ground and new fresh foliage will replace them. Good as cut flowers.
