Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Boulevard Cypress' This cypress is so lovely it invites touch! It reminds me of a shaggy show dog that you want to wrap your arms around, or at least give a pat or two.

And, when you do wrap your arms around it, it is very soft. Once you're done with the hugging part, we all know plants are in the garden to be admired and there is much to admire about the Boulevard cypress. It has soft blue green foliage and a smooth conical shape: the foliage flows and swirls giving the whole plant a very swooshy shape and feel. Boulevard cypress matures at about 8 feet tall by 8 feet wide. It likes well drained, moist slightly acidic soil, sun or partial shade. The whole plant turns a bluer color during the winter months. Beneath its fluffy foliage lies bark that is a red brown color and also quite attractive. This plant can be container grown or planted in the garden as a specimen or as a hedge. Plant with colorful perennials like Russian sage and Stella d’oro daylily for a combination that will brighten up any dark corner.
