12-28-10: Pieris japonica 'Snow Drift' |
|
When we think about composing plant of the week we walk the nursery to see what pops out and says pick me. Today it was Snowdrift pieris. I’m not sure what color the flower buds are but I love it, dress me in this deep rose and bright green and I could float through winter as beautifully as this plant does. Snowdrift Andromeda, the common name, grows five to six feet tall, has profuse white flowers in spring and will do well in sun or part shade. Pieris likes acidic soil and summer water. The spring flowers are an early nectar source for honey and mason bees. The rosy budded plants will work well in a container or as cut flowers.
