2-2-10: Lonicera kamchatika

Lonicera kamchatika This lovely shrub (four feet by four feet) is just starting to bloom, creamy green with a rose blush, and put on their tender new growth of a soft bright green leaf with just a touch of pink on the leaves.

Add this plant to your garden as a gentle reminder that, yes, spring is just around the corner. Honeyberries are native to Eastern Siberia and Japan where they are a highly prized fruiting plant. They produce delicious berries much like wild blueberries. Honeyberries prefer sun and well-drained soil; they are hardy to minus forty degrees and are easy to grow with no pest or disease problems. Two varieties of similar bloom time are needed for pollination. Plant three to four feet apart for a hedge or space six feet apart for individual plants. Honeyberries are an excellent addition to the edible garden and are a sweet plant in the ornamental garden.
