|
Rosmarinus officinalis 'Gorizia' Right now the most beautiful flower in our gardens at the nursery is the soft, yet exquisite blue of the Gorizia Rosemary. The flowers are nestled in thick needles of gray green making the whole thing look like a magic wand. Oh did I say blooming in our garden now? That means it survived the eight degree days in December, which means it is hardy here in the Pacific Northwest, when quite a few other rosemary's died of the cold. This is a lovely plant, growing five feet by five feet, blooming in spring and summer and then often again in the fall. It is one of those special transplants from Gorizia, Italy that was brought here and is thriving. It has a savory fragrance and is tasty in culinary exploits, useful as a cut flower and a beauty as we mentioned before in the garden. Plant as you would most Mediterranean plants; in full sun with good drainage and sparse fertility. Gorizia rosemary combines well with most plantings, lavenders, sages, roses, or broadleaf evergreens, such as rhododendrons and piersis. It does quite well in a container by the door where you will always be happy to see it.
