5-30-08: Vaccinium corymbosum 'Sunshine Blue'

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Sunshine Blue' Sunshine Blue is the Cinderella of blueberries, work horse turned belle of the ball. Designed for the production trade, its fruiting time (July-Sept) is too long to be easily harvested, resulting in the introduction to the garden landscape.

Sunshine Blue features blue green foliage that have the added benefit of being evergreen, pink bell shaped flowers in spring and red fall foliage. An edible ornamental, it is easily mixed into the home and commercial landscape. Self-pollinating Sunshine Blue can be container planted. As with all blueberries, plant in full sun, acidic well drained soil and summer water is required. A full sized bush is 3 to 4 feet and can be spaced 6 to 8 feet apart.
