5-31-11: Vaccinium angustifolium 'Brunswick' |
|
This is the plant you seek when you are hiking along above the tree line. You find it hugging the ground, with heather for a neighbor and a mountain hemlock nearby. If it is the right time of year (late summer) it will be covered with delicious blueberries. I was reminded by Pam, my coworker, that this specific blueberry is great as a ground cover. Imagine an area covered with beautiful blueberry plants; tasty treats, fragrant flowers and bright fall color. ‘Brunswick’ blueberry grows 8-12 inches high and 2-3 feet wide. Plant in full sun to part shade in well drained soil. The flowers provide nectar for butterflies and other pollinators. The very flavorful fruit are pea sized and ripen mid season. Fall color on this blue berry is red-orange. This is a plant native to North America, useful as an edible groundcover and a perfect landscape plant.
