6-3-08: Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple' |
|
Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple' Heuchera are grown for the special leaf color and texture as well as the delicate flowers on slender stems perched above the foliage. A bit of morning sun and afternoon shade makes them happy and they do well in a container. ‘Palace Purple’ is the offspring of Fringecup, a Willamette Valley native. ‘Palace Purple’ has large shiny purplish-bronze leaves topped by creamy white flowers. Heucheras bloom in May, June, and July, grow 12”-23” high by 12”-18” wide. They attract hummingbirds but not deer. They are one of the few ground covers that will grow under walnut trees. Plant them single or as a mass, in a woodland setting or in a perennial garden. The plant heuchera is named after the 18th century German botanist Johann Hienrich von Heuchera. This plant is also known as Coral Bells or Alum Root. The sweet Coral Bells, well known in gardens for their bright delicate orange-red spring flowers have developed into a grand array of desirable foliage plants. We recommend you try one.
