7-11-08: Lavandula angustifolia 'Tuscan' TM

Lavandula angustifolia 'Tuscan' TM Lavender is a Mediterranean plant, this one specifically coming from a small village farm outside of Lucca in the region of Tuscany. As with all lavender, they thrive in full sun with good drainage for optimal growth.

They like sweet soil so add a bit of agricultural lime. Once a year they need to be pruned for shape, any time May – August, best pruned late July after harvesting flowers. This gives the plants a chance to put on new growth and a possible second bloom and they will look good all winter. Lavender can be grown as a hedge, in a perennial border or in containers. The romantic love of lavender comes from the sweet fragrance of the long stemmed, light purple flower which blooms from June-October. The more you pick the more it keeps blooming, so hang some upside down to dry, take a bouquet to a friend , make a sachet or throw a little in the sugar cookies for a treat. I know it’s very opinionated to say anything is the best, yet we feel that Tuscan TM lavender is the very best all around landscape lavender. Tuscan TM lavender will grow fast reaching a peak size of about three feet across and three feet high in 2-3 years. You will be amazed at how well this plant grows and also by its fragrant and abundant spikes of beautiful flowers. This is a trademarked variety originally introduced by Joey and Nancy Blum.
