7-27-10: Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun'

Bright sunshiny flowers inspired by the colors used in Southwestern Indian blankets are the jewels that grace the top of this gaillardia plant.

Pure summer and a long blooming time, Blanket flowers are glorious in the garden and as a cheery bouquet in your summer cabin, if you are lucky enough to have one. ‘Arizona Sun’ Gaillardia has fiery orange red blossoms tipped with rich yellow measuring about three inches across. These are carefree plants which like full sun, attract butterflies, are drought tolerant (once established) and deer proof. And do these plants bloom – all summer long. Plant them in containers, in any sunny corner mixed with lavender, Irish yews, grasses and daffodils for spring blooms. A landscaper came last week and took a couple dozen gaillardia to plant in front of a bank, a cheery entrance to any business.
