7-3-07: Vaccinium ovatum

Vaccinium - ovatum is a small evergreen shrub native to the Pacific Coastal Regions which makes it an easy to maintain landscape plant selection for our climate.

Evergreen Huckleberries have an erect growth habit to 2-3 feet high and wide in sun and may become larger in shady conditions. The foliage is lustrous with leathery dark green leaves adorned with bronze to red new growth throughout the season. In spring the plants are covered with white to pinkish flowers followed by black berries good in jams, jellies and pies. This versatile plant can also be grown in containers or trimmed as a small hedge.
