8-14-07: Ilex crenata 'Convexa'

Ilex crenata 'Convexa' is an attractive bright green compact, rounded evergreen shrub growing 4 to 6 feet high and wide at its maturity.

It has dainty white flowers in the spring followed by ornamental black fruit. It can be used as a hedge plant or does well as a stand alone shrub. This variety of Japanese Holly has the appearance of boxwood with its small rounded cupped leaves but no fragrance to speak of. Good landscape choice when a “polished” hedge look is required or a specific shape is desired.
