8-16-11: Ceanothus 'Victoria' |
|
Ceaonothus, also know as California Lilac, is a beauty year round with deep green oval leaves about one inch long, dense, shearable growth. It attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds with rich, powder blue cluster flowers that start to bloom in June and continue on throughout the summer. Ceonothus grows in full sun and well drained soil four to six feet tall and wide. If you protect ceonothus from cold winds it will give you and the honey bees many years of nourishment and pleasure. This is a versatile, evergreen plant can be left to grow free form, shear into a hedge or limb up into a small tree. As an added bonus, deer typically do not forage on the leaves of the ceanothus.
