8-3-10: Ceanothus 'Victoria'

A friend of mine said she was noticing fewer bees this year – hummmm – in light of that comment here is a plant that will attract bees as well as be very attractive in your garden.

Ceaonothus also know as California Lilac is a beauty year round with deep green oval leaves about one inch long, dense, shearable growth and the part that attract the bees butterflies and hummingbirds are the rich powder blue cluster flowers that start to bloom in June and continue on throughout the summer. Ceonothus grows in full sun and well drained soil four to six feet tall and wide. If you protect ceonothus from cold winds it will give you and the honey bees many years of nourishment and pleasure. This plant can be left to grow free form, shear into a hedge or limb up into a small tree.
