8-31-10: Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Pendula' |
|
It’s not new information to classify this tree as a Dr. Seuss tree with its hanging, contorted, almost ghostly shape. I’ve read it in other articles and find it to be very accurate. Dave Daniel the owner of the nursery likes it so much he choose to put one on every corner of the building when it was landscaped. This sequoia has a very upward movement yet with a swooshing downward fall of the branches and a twist and turn here and there in the plant. It has been said you can literally tie this plant in knots and let it grow. Giant weeping sequoia is often used as an accent conifer. It is dense and narrow and very animated in appearance. Plant it in full sun with good drainage and expect it to grow 35 feet high and 5 feet wide. Plant singly as a specimen, especially where space is at a premium, or group them for a very dramatic effect. Plant with grasses and fine textured perennials, this tree can be used in the garden in very imaginative ways. The color is the same green as a regular giant sequoia and it has the great thick red brown bark under the flowing mane of foliage. Enjoy this one!
