8-7-07: Cupressocyparis leylandii

Cupressocyparis leylandii is an extremely fast growing evergreen tree that will easily grow three to four feet per year after established even in poor soils and will ultimately reach fifty feet or more at maturity.

Leland Cypress if left un-pruned will form a dense oval or pyramidal shape, but the long slightly pendulous branches will tolerate severe pruning to create a formal hedge, screen or windbreak. The fine feathery foliage is a dark blue green when mature and bright green when young. Leyland Cypress will tolerate a wide range of soil types from clay to sand, acid to alkaline. It grows well in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. We are also offering cultivars; ‘Castlewellen’ a more compact variety with golden tipped foliage and a more erect habit and ‘Naylors Blue’ with blue gray foliage both in #1’s for $2.95.
