9-25-07: Perovski atriplicifolia 'Longin'

Perovski atriplicifolia 'Longin' is a woody perennial commonly known as Russian Sage. The most captivating characteristic of this striking perennial is its tall lavender-blue flower stalks that seem to form a soft vibrant haze above its light grayish green foliage all summer long, very impressive when several plants are grouped together.

To prolong their blooming season, spent blooms are trimmed off for an introduction of new color. The foliage is deeply serrated and has an aroma of culinary sage when touched. Plants thrive in full sun, average soil and good drainage. Given these conditions, stems are 3-4' tall and wide with an upright growth habit. Russian Sage is a good choice for the landscape when a drought tolerant and hardy perennial is needed.
